| Krista | Krista slings her pack as she steps down the gangway of a small coastal freighter. She leaves behind the stench of burnt oil, the gropes and lewed comments of the sailors. The greasy ships captain that would visit her late at night, smelling of sour booze. She's a survivor, a wastelander. Having grown up living in the wastelands of Seattle. Scraping by, avoiding the demons both supernatural and human. Staying hidden most of the time to avoid the slavers, the pimps, the gangs of rapists, the cannibals. She spent most of her life hiding in basements, attics, spare hidden rooms. Kept hidden by friends, other survivors, or those who would be willing to hold her up. Sometimes her benifactors, those who kept her hidden wanted more. It wasn't a verbal agreement, but she knew what was expected and did what she must to survive. Krista avoided the gangs, the lifestyle, mostly drawing in solitude, the walls of her hiding spaces covered with her doodles and paintings. Any scrap paper she found covered in scribbles and drawings. Some of which reflected the wartorn urban landscape where she lived, others more peaceful, the fantasy of open skies, clear air, great pinetrees. The last family that hid her was quite kind. They didn't expect anything of her. A rare kindness in such a dark world. She heard them when the men came. The screams, the agony, as they were tortured and killed. The place set ablaze she barely escaped with her life. She grabbed a few valuables, that mostly payed for a trip on a waterlogged ship, one that creaked with each wave, many a night she layed in terror expecting the hull to break open, the cold seawater to flood in, to finally snuff out her life. Amazingly, the ship in fact made it into the port of Los Angeles. She got off the dock in San Pedro, making her way north, to some civilization. To leave the horrors of the Seattle wasteland behind, to start a new life. | 02/03/09 00:09 |
