| Ephran Ehrler | ((This'll be Eph's journal--it'll start as a backstory developer in several installments, and may continue to relate current events, assuming I don't get distracted by something, like free ice cream, or my reflection in a window.)) My story starts, like so many do, with a girl. I could play up the cliche a little further and call her a knockout, if I wanted. Technically, I'd be lying--she didn't actually knock me out. The first time. I should start over. My first vision of the girl who would define the course of the rest of my life involved her fist hurtling toward my face. It was not, as I've stated, a knockout blow, but I had a nosebleed for an hour and a black eye for a week. Not bad. No, I'm not gonna say "for a girl" -- do you think I [i]like[/i] being hit? At any rate, this was my graceful introduction to the inimitable, irrepressible Gensa Jameson. I don't know why she decided on a stint in a tired old Chicago rehab joint, when Ms. Rockstar could have had her vacation at any one of the many posh celebrity spa clubs, but I wasn't complaining. Okay, I [i]was[/i] complaining. I'd just been punched in the face. I digress. Again. Focus, Eph. It was pretty apparent early on that Ms. Rockstar's stay was not voluntary--or if it was, it was because the other option was even less appealing. I'd like to replace one of my earlier alliterations starting with 'in' with 'inconsolable'. Because she was. Insufferable? Yeah, probably. Pain in the ass. Sullen, brooding, wouldn't talk, wouldn't interact. They put her in a wheelchair for a while, and she'd just sit there, staring and sulking. Typical spoiled celebrity pout--utterly undeserving of sympathy. So, smart guy I am? I, apparently completely unwilling to learn from a goddamned face-punching, decide she needs a friend. You can insert your ominous music here. I spent two weeks wheeling that girl to a window to look out on a bleak, midwinter Chicago cityscape. I sat with her, talked with--okay, to--her, I even did that same old stupid thing everyone does and busted out a pack of cards, just trying to get her to open up. I mean, I'd be lying if I said I didn't know who she was--hello, rockstar?--but I was never really the type to follow gossip. So I tried treating her like a person. I don't think anyone had done that in a while. And at first? Yeah, don't think she was a fan. Lucky for me, I'm a persistent little bastard. In fact, it only took me two weeks to progress from sullen silence to hostile, scathing remarks! Yeah. Made a famous celebrity hate me. How cool am I? | 04/15/09 06:12 |
